WEATHER OVERVIEW
Zanzibar boasts ideal weather year-round, with warm summer days tempered by pleasant sea breezes, especially along the North and East coasts. The island enjoys a warm, humid sub-equatorial climate, with air temperatures often exceeding 30°C (86°F) and water temperatures rarely dropping below 25°C (77°F). Zanzibar experiences two rainy seasons and two dry seasons, each offering unique conditions:
- Long Dry Season (July to October): Clear skies, warm, dry and sunny weather, with minimal rainfall and average temperatures of around 25°C (77°F). An excellent time for outdoor activities and beach fun.
- Second Dry Season (January to mid-March): Zanzibar’s summer and peak tourist season, where temperatures can reach up to 35°C (95°F). Perfect for sun seekers and water enthusiasts looking to enjoy the beaches and water sports.
- Long Rains (Late March to May): Zanzibar's low season, marked by intense, irregular rainfall. It is the quietest time on the island, ideal for those seeking peace and solitude. While it doesn't rain every day, outdoor activities may be limited, though the warm temperatures and high humidity persist.
- Short Rains (November to December): Characterized by brief, light downpours that typically don't disrupt travel plans. After the rain, clear skies return, making it an ideal time for a quieter island experience with fewer crowds, while outdoor activities can continue as usual.
TIDES
Tides are an integral part of life in Zanzibar, with the island experiencing two low and two high tides each day, roughly six hours apart. During low tide, explore the exposed coral reefs, cool off in the tidal pools, or enjoy a leisurely walk along Kiwengwa Beach’s powdery white, palm-fringed coastline. At high tide, the turquoise waters rise, offering the perfect opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear ocean, just steps from your door.
